DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque Men’s Basketball team beat crosstown rival Loras College, 96-78, to finish off the sweep women’s and men’s doubleheader sweep of Loras.

The Spartans used a total team effort on offense, as five different Spartans scored in double figures and another with nine points. Jake Weber led the way for UD scoring and on the glass, as he finished with a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Jamaree Atwater and Jalen Jackson both pitched in 17 points, while TJ Lake had 14 and Kyle Bauer came off the bench to finish with 12. “Tonight was the best 40 minutes we have played this season,” said head coach Robbie Sieverding. “Loras plays at a fast pace and we handled that pressure well with only 9 turnovers.  Jake Weber had a great game for us tonight and his effort was a big difference in the game.” UD shot 50% from the field and also hit 11 three pointers for 45.8% from behind the arc to help pace their offense.

UD’s also stepped up their defense tonight, forcing Loras into 15 turnovers, blocked six shots and held Loras to 34.9% shooting from the field in the game. Atwater blocked four of the six shots for the Spartans, while Weber blocked the other two and contributed two steals as well.

“I thought TJ Lake’s defense on their point guard was really good because he really makes there team go. Very balanced effort with five guys in double figures tonight and we finally played the type of defense that we are capable of,” continued coach Sieverding. “We play a very good Central team that has a ton of experience back and really shoots the ball well. We will have to be locked in and have a few good days of preparation to give our team chance out in Pella.”

The Spartans hit the road again on Wednesday to take on Central. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. in Pella.
