Men's Basketball Suffer Loss in Las Vegas Hoopla Opener

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Dubuque Men’s basketball team fell in Las Vegas late Tuesday night, 67-84 to Dakota Wesleyan.

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead on Dakota Wesleyan, leading by as much as eight points at one point but the Tigers rallied back to take a 47-41 lead into halftime. The Tigers still led UD by eight points around the midway point of the second half until the Spartans went on a 7-0 run to cut the Spartans deficit to 64-65 with 8:29 left, after a layup by Jake Weber. However, Dakota Wesleyan responded with an 18-0 run to push their lead to 64-83 late in the second half.

The Spartans were once again powered by Jake Weber as he recorded another double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, both were team highs. Weber also led the team with three assits, while Jamaree Atwater and Jacob Mohlis both dished out two. Jamaree Atwater and TJ Lake were the only other two Spartans to reach double figure points, both having 15 points and each hit three, three pointers. UD dominated the offensive boards as they collected 11 offensive rebounds to Dakota Wesleyan’s one, leading to the Spartans attempting 18 more shots than the Tigers. However, the Spartans were only able to connect on 36.6% of their shots from the field, while the Tigers hit a staggering 62.3%.

The Spartans close out the Las Vegas Hoopla tonight against Presentation College at 10:00 p.m. CT.
