Men's Lacrosse Fall in Conference Opener

Kenosha, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team fell in their conference opener at Carthage College on Saturday afternoon, 2-15.

Carthage (6-1, 1-0 CCIW) took an 8-0 lead into halftime and scored the first nine goals of the game as the Spartans were held scoreless for the first 36 minutes of the contest before finally breaking through with a goal from Tyson Svoboda. Michael Julius recorded the other goal for UD as he found the back of net off an assist from Joe Furnstahl with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

Michael Julius’ goal was his fifth of the season, putting him third on the team in goals, five behind the team leader Matt Penalvert who has 10. Josh Berry-Wingate is second on the team in points with 11, Berry-Wingate has seven goals and four assists in the first five games of the year. Berry-Wingate has also taken a majority of the faceoff’s for UD, winning 29 of 60. Brandon Jagitsch is second on the team taking 14 of 38 faceoff’s.

The Spartans return to action next Saturday, March 18th, as they travel to Concordia University in Chicago, Illinois.
