DECORAH, Iowa – After beating Luther just nine days ago in Dubuque, the University of Dubuque women’s basketball team fell victim to the Norse on Wednesday night, 55-85.

UD (8-13, 4-8 IIAC) did not have their best shooting night, as they shot just 26.7% from the field on the night, while Luther (12-7, 8-3 IIAC) shot nearly 48%. The Spartans only managed eight points in the second quarter and only two in the last 8:08 of the half. The Spartans bounced back to win the third quarter and keep the game within striking distance heading into the final quarter, but the Norse outscored the Spartans 24-7 in the fourth quarter to pull away and seal the game. UD could not find an answer for Luther’s Anna Madrigal, as she scored 25 points on 9-18 shooting.

The Spartans had three players reach double figure points, led by IIAC Player of the Week , Emily Brinker, with 14 points. Brinker scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half. Morgan Boer had six points in the first half before finishing with 10 points and 7 rebounds. UD received quality minutes off of the bench tonight from Lexi Daniels and Cece Pope. Daniels had 12 points, going four for four from behind the arc. Pope managed seven points but made herself known on the glass, as she grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.

The Spartans finally have a break in the schedule and have this weekend off, and return to action by traveling to Simpson College next Wednesday, February 8th. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Indianola. UD won the first matchup between these two teams this season, 71-66.
