Schneiderman Named to D3baseball.com All-Central Region
May 23, 2017
2017 D3baseball.com All-Central Region
The 2017 season marks the sixth year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with 800 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.
The University of Dubuque's Nathan Schneiderman (LHP, L/L, 6-5, 220, So., German Valley, Ill./Forreston HS) was the lone Spartan to collect D3baseball.com All-Central Region honors for 2017. As a relief pitcher, Schneiderman had not given up an earned run until the Spartans final game of the season and helped UD to their best record ever for most wins (23-17 overall, 17-7 in the Iowa Conference - 2nd place).
Schneiderman finished with a 6-1 record, 0.47 ERA, appeared in 15 games and 38 innings and fanned 42 batters and walked just eight. In the 124 at bats he faced, he allowed just four extra base hits, and picked up five saves. The Spartans qualified for the Iowa Conference tournament for the second consecutive season and look to carry that momentum into the 2018 season.
Head Coach Paul Wyczawski led the Spartans to a record breaking season as the Spartans set the school record with 23 overall wins and 17 Iowa Conference wins. The previous record for wins in a season was set in 1995 with 22 overall wins, while the previous conference wins mark was 13 wins in both the 1985 and 1986 seasons. The second place regular season finish in the Iowa Conference is also the best finish in the conference standings school history.
The Iowa Conference named Wyczawski 2017 Coach of the Year and seven Spartan players to the 2017 All-Iowa Conference team, headlined with four first team picks. It is the most All-Iowa Conference selections in a single year in school history.
