BOX SCORE

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Spartans avenged an early season loss to Augustana College (IL) on Friday night in the consolation game of the 2016 Pat Deacon Classic with a 78-76 victory over the Vikings.

Augustana entered the tournament with a perfect 10-0 mark, before losing to Berea 95-89 on Thursday night. The loss set up the rematch with the Spartans, who lost to the Vikings 80-100 on Nov. 22. UD struggled in the opening round of the tournament and lost to the host Transylvania Univ. 58-97.

In the previous meeting, Augie would finish the game with five players in double digit scoring. Friday night, UD held the Vikings to just three players in double figures en route to just their second loss of the season. UD improved to 5-7 overall and finished with four student-athletes in double digit scoring.

Brinker led all scorers with 18 points, none of the points were any bigger than the jumper with six seconds left of the game. She connected to put the Spartans up by a basket with five seconds remaining. A pair of timeouts set up one last shot for the Vikings. Augustana got the shot they wanted, a layup only to miss and have the Spartans Madison Boer collect the rebound as time expired.

Allie Biermeier went 5-6 from the field to finish with 14 points in just 12 minutes off the bench. Abbey Meyer added 13 points and five assists, Morgan Boer had 10 points. UD out rebounded the Vikings 44-36 with Brinker collecting eight boards to lead the Spartans.

The Spartans resume conference play on Wednesday night as they host Coe College on Jon Davison Court in the Stoltz Sports Center at 6:00 p.m.
