Spartans Dominate in Road Win Over Concordia

CHICAGO, Ill.- After a week off, the Spartans racked up 19 goals, six of them by Michael Jango, as they defeated Concordia University Chicago 19-6 on Saturday afternoon.

UD led wire to wire as they jumped out to an early lead, getting a goal from Michael Jango 1:28 into the game. The Spartans went on to take a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of action and the Spartans lead would never get below three goals for the remainder of the game. 

After the Cougars cut the Spartans lead to 6-3 early in the second quarter, the Spartans offense caught fire and scored the next five goals to blow the lead open to 11-3. UD then went on to score the last nine goals of the game, five of which came in the fourth quarter, to put an exclamation point on the victory.

UD recieved contributions from many players in the win, Michael Jango led the Spartans with six goals on ten shots, Tyson Svoboda and Joe Furnstahl also collected hat tricks with three goals of their own. Three different Spartans also found the back of the net three different times, Michael Julius, Jacob Olsen and Branden Mueller. Both UD goalies saw action, starter Kyle Mullins stopped three Cougar shots and Samuel Kopecky blocked eight shots, both gave up three goals.

The Spartans dominated in almost every facet of the game, they fired off a staggering 61 shots to Concordia's 22. UD won 21 of 28 faceoffs, with Ethan Senesac winning 10 of 14 and Josh Berry-Wingate with wins on six of eight. UD also scooped up a majority of the loose balls, grabbing 38 groundball compared to the 11 that Concardia won.

The Spartans hit the road again as they travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Bloomington, Illinois.
