Spartans Drop Nail-Biter to UW-Stout

Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Dubuque Men’s basketball team dropped a hard fought game on Saturday night to UW-Stout, 58-60.

UD went into the half trailing by eight points but scrapped their way back to eventually take a one point lead with about three minutes remaining in the game. After the Spartans took the lead, the Blue Devils went on a 6-0 run to give them a 60-55 lead. Deonte Newsome hit a three pointer with 22 seconds remaining to make the score 60-58. The Spartans then forced a turnover with only 10 seconds remaining to give themselves one last possession, however they could not convert on it.

Jalen Jackson came off the bench to pace the scoring for UD on Saturday night with 14 points. Jackson connected on four three pointers in 10 attempts in his 20 minutes of action. Jake Weber produced yet another double-double for the Spartans with 13 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.  TJ Lake matched Weber with 13 points on the night, while he and Deonte Newsome both dished out a team high three assists.

The Spartans hit the road again on Wednesday as they travel to UW-Platteville; game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
