Spartans Drop Road Contest at Illinois Tech

CHICAGO, Ill. - In a game that featured four lead changes in the final 2:30 and 18 for the entire game, The University of Dubuque men's basketball team dropped their final non-conference game of the year to Illinois Tech, 69-71.

Illinois Tech took a 69-70 lead with 1:30 remaining in the game and the Spartans had several chances to take the lead but could not convert as they turned the ball over on three of their next four possesions. Neither team could pull away from the other, as the largest lead by either team was only five points. The Spartans shot just 25-70 (35.7%) from the field on the night and 8-22 (36.4%) from behind the arc. UD was able to force Illinois Tech into 12 turnovers, where the Spartans turned those into 12 points off turnovers.

Jake Weber, TJ Lake and Jamaree Atwater combined for 49 of the Spartans 69 points on Saturday afternoon. TJ Lake was inserted back in the starting lineup, where he led the Spartans with 20 points before fouling out late in the game. Jake Weber, once again collected another double double with 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jamaree Atwater just missed a double double as he added 10 points and nine rebounds. Freshman, Jalen Jackson, came off the bench to give UD seven points, while also dishing out a team high two assists. 

The Spartans return to conference play on Wednesday night as they travel to Simpson College, where tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m in Indianola, Iowa.
