Spartans Ran Past Rams

DUBUQUE, Iowa- Alora Esparza and Robyn Wittkopf both tallied four goals for the University of Dubuque women's lacrosse team en rout to a 16-5 win over Cornell College and moving the Spartans to 4-0 this season.

The Spartans got off to a quick start as Jessi Tapia scored less than two minutes into the game with Alora Esparza adding another just over two minutes late. Cornell bounced back adding two more goals of their own to tie the game at two mid way through the first half. UD went on to score the next six goals to blow the game wide open and took a 9-3 lead into halftime.

The UD attack did not slow up in the second half as they posted seven more goals to push the game to continous clock. Alora Esparza and Robyn Wittkopf both netted a hat trick of their own in the second half alone. Ashley Ptasienski also had a hat trick on the evening, giving her seven goals on the season.

UD goalie, Kaley Weir allowed five goals on the night while also saving nine Ram shot attempts for her fourth win of the season. The Spartans put up a total of 31 shots on the night, with 24 of them either finding the back of the net or being stopped by the Rams goalie. UD forced Cornell into 22 turnovers while only turning it over 11 times themselves.

The Spartans hit the road for the first time of the season this weekend, taking on the University of Northwestern St. Paul on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Hamline at 11:00 a.m on Sunday morning.
