BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer Team overpowered Aurora University 4-1, Wednesday night at Oyen Field.

Aurora did not waste any time scoring tonight, as Ben Edith scored in the second minute of the game to put Aurora up 1-0 early. This was the first goal of the season that the UD Spartans surrendered. After the quick goal, the UD defense regained its dominate form and held Aurora scoreless for the remainder of the game. The stout defensive play was led by reigning IIAC Defender of the Week, Danny Daniels, as well as goalie Luis Gallardo, who saved six Aurora shots.

However, the early deficit did not last long, as Gonzalo Hernandez put UD on the scoreboard with a goal in the 10th minute off an assist from Matheus Santos. Malcom Phillips gave UD the lead with a goal in the 19th minute. Gonzalo Hernandez was not done scoring either, as he added his second goal of the match late in the first half with an assist from Chris Rigby and finished off the hat trick with the only goal from either team in the second half at 72:45. UD finished the night with 16 shots as Aurora had 13 in the loss.

Their next match is Saturday at Oyen Field against the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders at 3:00 p.m.
