Box Score

LINCOLN, Neb.- The University of Dubuque baseball team continued their roll in IIAC action and moved to 10-3 in conference play, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan in a defensive battle, 2-1.

Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to a quick lead, taking advantage of a UD error in the first inning to score one run.  In the top of the third inning, Marquis Dew started things off with a single to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Dew would eventually come around to score on a ground out from Jack Lasswell to tie the game at one.

Will Doherty started the top of the fifth inning for UD with a walk, followed by a double to left field from Marquis Dew. The Spartans then played small ball as Ryan Karrick laid down a squeeze bunt to bring home Doherty and give UD a 2-1 lead.

After that first inning, Nathan Schneidermann settled in and dominated for the next six innings, giving up five hits in his seven innings and no runs, while also escaping a mini jam in the fourth inning to keep the game tied. Derek Erwin relieved Schneidermann, going two innings for a save with very little drama as he only allowed one hit.

UD and Nebraska Wesleyan battle again tomorrow with game one of the doubleheader beginning at 12:00.
