2017-18 SchoolBus Performance Series to Feature STEAM

Apr 25, 2017

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Live at Heritage Center SchoolBus Performance Series will celebrate its fifth anniversary this upcoming season with programs aligned to STEAM – science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics – educational principles and methodology.

The 2017-18 Live at Heritage Center SchoolBus Performance Series kicks off Monday, Oct. 16, and runs through Wednesday, May 9. It will feature 10 titles and 12 performances. Programs were selected to complement classroom curriculum with creative and imaginative learning, critical thinking opportunities, and live performances. Performance-specific study guides also are available to help educators integrate performance topics into class activities.

Launched in 2014, the annual daytime field trip program provides learning opportunities for students pre-k-12. The series has grown to serve 12,500 pre-k-12 students, teachers, and chaperones this past year, up from 3,000 the first year. Schools from the tri-state area, some as far as one hour away, regularly attend the season offerings.

SchoolBus performances feature nationally touring professional and guest artist presentations for public, private, homeschool, and accredited preschool/day care groups with students 4 and older. Performances will be held in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center, with convenient bus access and parking.

All performances are at 9:45 a.m., with the exception of Doktor Kaboom! presents LIVE WIRE!: The Electricity Show and Mr. Molecule’s Bing Bang Boom Science Show, which have a second performance at 12:15 p.m. Most performances are approximately one hour and include a question-and-answer period.
