Volleyball Splits Season Opening Tournament

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s volleyball team went 2-2 on the weekend in four matches in the Lake Forest Invite to open their 2016 season.
UD defeated Marion University 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-23) and Lake Forest College 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 26-28, 25-14), while falling to Alma College 1-3 (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) and Lakeland College 2-3 (18-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 10-15). Sophomore defensive specialist Jenna Runde was named to the All-Tournament Team after grabbing 61 defensive digs. Setter Alyssa Cose finished the weekend with 136 set assists and a hitting percentage of .205. Junior Karrah Davis led the way in kills with 53, while also adding 57 defensive digs and six service aces.
Anna Runge set the tone defensively up front with 14 blocks in the four games and also added 29 kills for the Spartans. The Spartans next match is at home on Wednesday, September 7 against Cornell College at 7 p.m., this will be a varsity only match.
