Volleyball Sweeps at Augustana Pumpkin Bask

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois- The University of Dubuque volleyball went 2-0 on Friday at the 2016 Augustana Pumpkin Bash Tournament. They defeated Rockford in game one, 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-16) and took down Webster in the second match 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-22).
The Spartans came out attacking with 11 kills in the first game but there were just getting going as they would finish with 38 kills for the entire match and an impressive hitting percentage of .359 to take down Rockford in straight sets (25-15, 25-9, 25-16). UD used a very balanced approach to take down Rockford as every Spartan got in at some point throughout the match. 11 different Spartans recorded kills, led Lauren Egnarski, Anna Runge and Kyra Nelson who all had six kills each. Three other Spartans, Karrah Davis, Anna Grace and Paige Harbort, all had four kills. Alyssa Cose assisted 30 Spartan kills, while Jenna Runde led the team with 16 digs, although 11 Spartans also had a dig during the game.
In the second match of the day against Webster, UD used 44 kills and a hitting percentage of .237 to blow by Webster in three sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-22). Six different Spartans had more than four kills in the match, Karrah Davis had the most with 12, followed by Anna Runge with nine. Alyssa Cose was her usual self setting up her teammates with 38 assists, for a total of 68 on the day. Four Spartans recorded double digit digs, with Meagan Albon having 22, Jenna Runde 12, Karrah Davis and Alyssa Cose with 10. UD also had five total team blocks in the match, as Anna Runge contributed four block assists and Alyssa Cose, Karrah Davis, Anna Grace and Lauren Egnarski also contributing at least one block asssits.
This tournmanet closed out the season for the Spartans, finishing the 2016 year with a 15-17.
