LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball found the host Transylvania University to be a tough opponent on Thursday in the opening round of the 2016 Pat Deacon Classic after a 58-97 loss.

UD will face Augustana College Vikings in the consolation game at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans lost to the Vikings earlier this year on Nov. 22 by a 80-100 mark.

Thursday night, the Spartans struggled to get the ball in the hoop in the first half after being held to six points in the first quarter and eight points in the second period. UD would out score Transylvania 44-43 in the final half of action.

Just one Spartan would get into the double digit scoring, Lexi Daniels. Daniels came off the bench to score 17 points in 18 minutes of play. She sank 5-7 from beyond the three point arc. The Spartan starters would be held to 11 combined points and would shoot 7-22 from the floor in the loss.

Sixteen Spartans would see action in the first round. UD ended the night shooting 34.5% from the field (20-58), 30.4% from the three point arc (7-23), and 68.8% at the free throw line (11-16).

UD dropped to 4-6 overall and will kick off 2017 next week in Iowa Conference action at home on Jon Davison Court on Jan. 4 against the Coe College Kohawks in Stoltz Sports Center.
