Women's Basketball Overcome by No.9 Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa- After keeping pace with ninth-ranked Wartburg in the first half, the Spartans fell victim to a big second half from the Knights and dropped their third conference game, 54-77.

The Spartans shot 40% from the field in the first half, including 66.7% from behind the arc to trail the the Knights by only three points heading into the break. The Spartans had four players with more than six points at halftime, led by Madison Boer with 8 points and Abbey Meyer with 7.

However, UD could only manage to shoot 36% in the second half and only 14.6% from three point land as Wartburg caught fire, shooting 53.6% from the field in the second half. On top of being out shot from the field by the Knights, Wartburg also made 16 of 19 free throws, while Dubuque only managed to get to the line eight times, converting on 5 of them. Emily Brinker finished as the leading scoring for the Spartans with 12 points.

The Spartans continue conference play on Wednesday night as they host the Simpson Storm at the Stoltz Sports Center at 6:00 p.m.
