The Spartans would score off this play by McKenna Young in the second half only to have the goal called back for an offsides by UD.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team travelled across the Mississippi River to face the UW-Platteville Pioneers on Sunday afternoon. Ideal conditions for collegiate soccer provided the Spartans a chance to control the ball for a 2-0 victory.

UD captured the shutout as the defense held the Pioneers to just five shots with four being on goal for keeper Megan Moll who blocked all four attempts. The Spartans finished with nine shots and were led by Lauren Cangelosi who had four and Brianna Burkhart who added three. Sixteen Spartans played in the win and improved their overall record to 3-3-1.

Burkhart score the game winning goal at 28:53 on a penalty kick after a Pioneer foul in the box. Cangelosi extnded the lead to 2-0 after a shot from a few yards out as time was counting down in the opening half (43:22). The Pioneers returned in the second half inspired and pushed the ball to the Spartans side of the field, but the strength of the Spartans midfielders and defenders would not allow the Pioneers offense to get any good open looks.

UD will host Monmouth College on Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. under the lights of Oyen Field.
