DUBUQUE, Iowa – University of Dubuque women’s soccer scored a late goal to beat Simpson College 1-0.

After an offensive struggle from both teams for a majority of the match, Dubuque’s Lauren Cangelosi was able to put one in the back of the net with only 1:12 remaining in the game to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead and victory. Cangelosi’s goal was her first game winning goal on the year and her fourth goal of the season, which is tied for the team lead with Shelby Nicholson.

The Spartans defense was on top of their game all night.  Goalie Megan Moll stopped all four shots that Simpson put on goal.  Defenders Jamie Spate, Alexa Martin and Jessica Fierce all did their part to help slow down the Storm’s attack.  This was the fourth time this season that the Spartans have posted a shutout.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Luther College in Decorah.
