Women's Tennis Falls to Top-Ranked Kohawks 3-6

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Women’s Tennis split the singles matches against Coe College Kohawks, but it was the hosts who captured the victory 6-3 over the Spartans.
Arantxa Martinez at #1 singles. Megan Ranney at #5 singles, and Naomi Amani at #6 singles all won against the Kohawks. Martinez defeated Haley Resnick 7-5, 6-2, Ranney took down Kaitlin Fosler 7-6, 6-2 and Amani beat Tory Montoya 6-3, 3-6, 10-4.
“Today’s loss against Coe gave us a lot of feedback with Coe being #1 team in conference,” commented Head Tennis Coach Claudio Giraldi. “The way the girls played today was pretty close and showed we can be very competitive in the conference this year. Great strength shown by Aranxta Martinez in a tough first set at #1 singles. Our #5 Megan Ranney and #6 Naomi Amani showed a lot of determination bringing home those two singles matches for the Spartans."
The Spartans return home for another tough conference matchup against the Wartburg College Knights on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. on Frank Farber Tennis Courts.
