DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Dubuque Arts Council will celebrate its 55th year with "Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes - 100 Years of Hank" featuring Jason Petty at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque.

"We are excited to celebrate the Dubuque Arts Council's 55th year," said Dave Grable, a council board member. "The community has been asking for a country show, and '100 Years of Hank' fits the bill, as the music of Hank Williams has been loved for generations, and 'Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes' are the most reverend talent to honor Hank's legacy."

Presented by the Dubuque Arts Council, the performance will bring the authentic and insightful story of Hank Williams - one of the most influential singers/songwriters ever - to life through Jason Petty. An acclaimed performer and musician, Petty's roots run deep into the heart of country music. He previously portrayed Hank Williams in New York City's hit off-Broadway musical Lost Highway, where Petty won a prestigious Obie Award with multiple nominations for his performance.

Now, Petty continues to capture Hank Williams's silky warble and yodeling sob to a T, recreating hit songs such as "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Hey, Good Lookin'," "Kaw-Liga," "Cold Cold Heart," "Lovesick Blues," and many more.

In "Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes - 100 Years of Hank," Petty and his authentic four-piece band will also pay tribute to stars that influenced Hank Williams and those that Hank Williams influenced such as Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, the Carter Family, George Jones, and Webb Pierce.

Tickets are $30 to $40 plus fees. Tickets can be purchased from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 90 minutes prior to events at the Farber Box Office, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque, 2255 Bennett Street; by calling 563.585.SHOW; or by visiting www.dbq.edu/HeritageCenter.

The performance is sponsored by Coletta and Grady Ivy and with financial operational support from the City of Dubuque.

"Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes - 100 Years of Hank" featuring Jason Petty is a bonus event hosted by Dubuque Arts Council at Heritage Center.
