Main campus is open with limited and restricted access per guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds. Please call ahead prior to visiting campus offices or buildings to verify hours and availability.

On Monday, June 1, 2020, fitness facilities at the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC) and Veterans Memorial Training Center (VMTC) on University of Dubuque’s campus will reopen for use by UD faculty, staff, and students with strict precautions based on state and federal guidelines.

CRWC’s Cottingham and Butler Fitness Center will be open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The track and courts remain closed until further notice. CRWC staff will limit the number of participants to 50 percent capacity.

At the VMTC, only one patron per rack and lift will be allowed at a time by appointment through UD strength and conditioning coaches.

UD remains committed to providing a safe environment and mitigating the spread of COVID-19. Please observe the following precautions when visiting the CRWC and VMTC: 

  • Patrons must wear a face covering when checking into the fitness facility. Face coverings will be worn by all staff.
  • Patrons and staff must sanitize their hands before and after entering the fitness facility.
  • Patrons will have their temperature checked with non-contact thermometers.
  • Social distancing of six feet should be practiced throughout the fitness facility.
  • All equipment must be sanitized by the patron when they are finished using the equipment.
  • All equipment used must be used by only one patron at a time.
  • Patrons must have their own water bottle.
  • Only the small men’s and women’s locker rooms on the main level of CRWC will be available for use. Two people will be allowed in the locker rooms at a time to shower and change. Lockers are not to be used to store belongings at this time.
  • In-Person Group Fitness Classes are postponed. Group Fitness Classes will be offered via Zoom this summer for you to workout wherever you are. Click here to find the classes.

UD is committed to providing a safe environment. Cleaning will be conducted at regular intervals during the day in line with guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Babka Aviation Learning Center
All UD airport facilities will have new operating hours until further notice. The Babka Aviation Learning Center and hangars will be open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The center will be closed Friday through Sunday.

Babka Bookstore
Although Babka Bookstore’s physical location is closed until further notice, the online store is still open at http://bookstore.dbq.edu/home. Free shipping is available on all textbooks as well as merchandise purchases of $20 or more until Friday, Aug. 7, 2020.

LIFE students who need to return rentals may place their rentals in boxes that are located outside of the Babka Bookstore’s entrances. LIFE students should ensure their name and student ID are printed on a piece of paper placed in each book.

Charles C. Myers Library
Effective Monday, April 20, 2020, physical access to the Charles C. Myers Library and Academic Success Center will be limited based on additional social distancing measures announced by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on Thursday, April 16, 2020. The measures will be in place until further notice.

The building will be accessible for UD students, faculty, and staff between noon to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday by appointment only. Appointments, which must be made at least 12 hours in advance, can be scheduled at www.dbq.edu/library for library resources and at https://dbq.mywconline.com for Academic Success Center assistance.

Access to the Myers Library is limited to the following uses:

  • Picking up books. Please place a hold on books you need prior to arriving at the library, and we will have the books ready for you.
  • Scanning books.
  • Accessing reserve materials.
  • Attending pre-scheduled tutoring or testing appointments with the ASC.

Myers Library will no longer be open for general computer use or as a place to study. If you do not have access to a computer or internet, please contact the ASC at dstork@dbq.edu.

Myers Library and ASC services will continue to be offered virtually.

Counseling and Life Services

Kelly Giegerich, counseling services and contracted counselor, will continue to be accessible for scheduled appointments at 563.589.3911. Students can also contact the Iowa Helpline anytime at 1.855.800.1239 to speak to a crisis counselor.

Dining Services
The Barbara and Jack Smeltzer Dining Hall in Peters Commons will only provide carry-out meal service. Lunch can be picked up Sunday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and dinner can be picked up Sunday through Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

CyberCafè, CRWC Juice Bar, Mike and Betty’s Ice Cream Shoppe, Sylvia's Common Ground, and Sparty's Convenience Store are closed until further notice.

Heritage Center
Bisignano Art Gallery is closed until further notice. All performances for Department of Fine and Performing Arts for the remainder of the spring semester have been canceled, and events in Babka Theatre have been postponed. Until further notice, the Farber Box Office is opened for phone sales only at 563.585.SHOW. In-person sales at the window will resume at a later time to be announced. Online sales are also available.
