University of Dubuque Redesigns LIFE Adult Degree Program in a HyFlex Format in Spring 2026
By Stacey Ortman
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque has redesigned its Learning Institute for Fulfillment and Engagement (LIFE) program to give adult learners more control over their education than ever before.
Launching spring 2026, LIFE HyFlex maintains UD's unique one class at a time adult learner format while adding new and improved flexibility. For each five-week class session, students will be able to choose to attend classes in-person, online synchronously in real-time from anywhere, or online asynchronously by watching a recorded class. Students will be able to mix and match each session at LIFE - Dubuque and LIFE - Cedar Rapids sites based on class availability in each five-week term.
"Adult learners are balancing careers, families, and community commitments and they deserve an education model that works for them," said Lee Noethe, senior director of LIFE admission - Dubuque. "The new LIFE HyFlex format empowers our students to take control of their education and advance their careers with the same quality, rigor, and personal attention UD is known for. The upgraded program and lower tuition combine UD's hallmark personal touch with the latest in educational technology. We've created a model that meets students where they are, supports them every step of the way, and opens the door to meaningful credentials and careers."
Two classrooms in Dubuque and one in Cedar Rapids have already been transformed into state-of-the-art HyFlex spaces with cameras, microphones, and other technology to provide the best student experience, no matter if the student is face-to-face or remote. Other classroom spaces at both sites will also support LIFE HyFlex when it launches.
LIFE HyFlex will continue the tradition of accelerated terms offered year-round, allowing adult learners to start anytime. Students can earn a bachelor's or master's degree faster through focused, five-week sessions with degrees designed to advance careers in high-demand fields including business, human resources, accounting, marketing, criminal justice, and healthcare.
A variety of student services are available to support LIFE HyFlex adult learners during their educational journey from learning support to on-site parking and more. Free childcare is also available at the Marge Kremer Little Spartans Childcare Center the nights students attend in-person classes on UD's campus and reimbursement of childcare costs the nights of in-person classes at LIFE - Cedar Rapids is available.
LIFE HyFlex will empower adult learners to earn their degrees on their terms, at their pace through new flexibility and affordable undergraduate and graduation tuition. Salute to Service tuition discount is also available for veterans and their spouses.
