Pair of Spartans Sign to Play in Pecos League

DUBUQUE, IOWA - A pair of former University of Dubuque baseball players have signed to play in the Pecos League for the 2014 season. Jordan Gawronski (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) has signed with the Bisbee Blue while Michael Campbell (Clinton, Mo./Clinton) will suit up for the Raton Osos. The former Spartans will report for spring training on May 5th before opening the season on May 14th. They are the second and third members of the 2013 Spartans Baseball team to sign deals to continue playing joining Spencer Kuehn, who is playing in Germany.

The Pecos League operates in numerous cities in the desert mountain regions of New Mexico, west Texas, and eastern Arizona. The league which began in August of 2010 runs from May 15th to July 27th.  The Blue will play their inaugural season in 2014 while the Osos are in their second year of opperations. In three years the Pecos League has promoted 147 players to higher independent or affiliated teams.

Gawronski hit .295 in 30 games as a senior for the Spartans to earn Second Team All-Iowa Conference in 2013. He played outfield, third base, and second base in his two season as a Spartan making 50 starts. Campbell split time between third base and catcher the last two seasons making 25 starts. 

The 2014 Spartans are tied for second place in the Iowa Conference at 3-3 and 7-10 overall. UD returns to the diamond on Friday, April 4th at Coe. UD and Coe will play one-seven and one-nine inning game on Friday and Saturday to complete the four game series. Game one on both days is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
