Relentless Attack Leads to Women's Soccer's 4th Straight Victory

Sep 7, 2014

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The score was closer than it seemed after the University of Dubuque women’s soccer team beat Monmouth College, 2-0, despite 14 shots on goal.

Lisa Rosas recorded her first goal of the year off a Melissa Sawyer assist just three minute into the match to give the Spartans (4-0) an early advantage. The assault continued throughout the first half but goalie Nicole Neagle and the Monmouth (1-2) defense held their ground.

The barrier would crumble three minutes into the second half as Katie Lynn would get free on a run and convert her fourth goal of the year into a 2-0 Spartan lead. It was Rosas lending the helping hand in the assist for her third point of the match.

This type of run-and-gun pattern would persist throughout the second half as the offense was boosted by a solid defensive backline that pushed it up the field and kept the pressure on. Efficiency was the word of the night as 14 of UD’s 16 shots were on goal.

The women turn right around and host Carroll University on Sunday, September 7th at 2:00 p.m. in the friendly confines of Oyen Field.
