Basierak Named All-Tournament as Spartans Roll at Ripon Invite
Sep 20, 2014
RIPON, Wis. – The University of Dubuque volleyball team posts a 3-1 record for the second straight tournament as they complete a successful weekend at the Ripon College Red Hawk Invitational.
The Spartans (7-11) breezed through day one over UW-Superior and Ripon as they dropped just one set. Day two made them earn their way as they split a pair of five-setters between UW-River Falls and the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Klaudia Basierak had herself a weekend and was named to the All-Tournament team after compiling 66 digs and 46 kills in four total matches. She continued to be a work-horse after tallying 194 attack attempts as well. Basierak’s 3,786 career attack attempts rank her fourth all-time in UD history and not far behind third-place Greta Pemsl (4,275).
University of Dubuque 3, UW-Superior 0 | (25-16, 25-22, 31-29)
It was a fairly short affair as UD jumped out to a quick lead. The Spartans hit .293 and .294 in the first two sets, respectively. They hit just .160 in the third but managed to squeak out the win. The last set featured 16 ties and eight lead changes. The Spartan defense held UW-Superior to a .110 attack percentage for the match.

University of Dubuque 3, Ripon 1 | (29-27, 15-25, 27-25, 25-16)
It was a grind-it-out type of battle as UD nabbed two of their set wins by just two points each. In both hotly contested sets there were five ties and at least nine lead changes. The other two sets were fairly lopsided as they flip flopped production. In set two, UD hit .048 to Ripon’s .143 and in set four, Ripon hit -.091 and UD produced a .214. The Spartans controlled the net with 33 total blocks.

UW-River Falls 3, University of Dubuque 2 | (22-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9)
The Spartans couldn’t capitalize on a 2-1 lead and fell in the fifth set after UW-River Falls hit .333. The two teams traded barbs and alternated set wins up to that point. UD’s chance to close out went awry after they put up a .028 hit percentage in the fourth set.

University of Dubuque 3, Milwaukee School of Engineering 2 | (25-15, 23-25, 29-27, 21-25, 7-15)
MSOE rolled in the first set but it was the Spartans who had the last laugh after dominating the fifth with a .312 hit percentage. After failing to close out 2-1 lead against UW-River Falls they flipped the script on MSOE’s 2-1 lead and won the last two sets to earn victory number seven.
