Spartans Dominate Simpson in 44-10 Homecoming Victory

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans scored early and often Saturday afternoon as they displayed the type of game they have been waiting to showcase all season en route to the 44-10 homecoming victory over the Simpson College Storm. The Spartans scored two touchdowns in every quarter, but the third to even their Iowa Conference mark to 1-1 and improve to 2-3 overall. 

UD finished with 482 yards of offense in front of a great, enthusiastic, homecoming crowd and the thousands of fans watching "live" on KCRG 9.2. The Spartans scored in 4-5 chances in the red zone and were led by quarterback Zach Fry who finished the night completing 23-37 passes for 278 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground UD's Alec Arvanitakis carried the ball 17 times for 97 yards, Milton Greer gained 45 yards in 10 carries and scored a touchdown. 

Chris Bagley caught seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown and Tyler Rutenbeck grabbed eight passes for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Shawn Grewal caught the Spartans first touchdown of the game on a five yard pass on a third and goal with 10:47 left of the opening quarter of action.

Bagley caught a 38 yard touchdown pass for UD's second score of the day. The Storm score their lone touchdown of the day at 13:22 of the second quarter on a three yard run, which capped off a nine play 80 yard drive for the Storm. Dylan Ramsey picked up a fumble by the Storm and scampered 70 yards for the touchdown to extend the Spartan first half lead to 28-7. The Storm added a 28 yard field goal in the third before the Spartans equaled the feat on a 37 yard field goal by Curtis Prull. Fry connected with Rutenbeck for two scores in the final quarter to give the Spartans a much deserved 44-10 win on Chalmers Field.

UD led in possession time with 32:59 and held the Storm to 27:01. UD converted 7-13 third downs and were a perfect 3-3 in fourth down conversions. The Storm were 5-15 third down conversions and converted just 1-5 fourth down attempts. Brayden Neuendorf kicked off eight times for 444 yards for an average of 55.5 yards. 

Blaine Snitker led the defensive effort with 10 tackles including eight solos. Trevor Stauner finished with eight as teammates Everett Schwer and Vincent Whipple had seven tackles. 

Next week doesn't get any easier as the Spartans face top-ranked Wartburg College Knights (5-0 overall, 2-0 in IIAC) on their homecoming in Waverly with kick-off slated for 1:30 p.m.
