Women's Soccer Clinch IIAC Tournament Spot With Overtime Victory

WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team needed overtime on Saturday night to capture their 13th win of the season and 4th win in conference play. The Spartans being hosted by the Wartburg College Knights on their homecoming, played even through 90 minutes, just three minutes into the first overtime UD's Kyleigh McLaughlin snuck the winning shot though the left side of the goal for the game winner. UD clinched an IIAC Tournament spot with the win and are tied for first place in the league (4-1) with 12 pts.

UD (13-4 overall, 4-1 in IIAC) finished the match with nine shots and six on goal. The Knight's defense held Megan Siepler, Lauren Waddell, Kelsey Graefen, Brianna Burkhart, and Melissa Sawyer to a lone shot each. McClaughlin and Katie Lynn each had two shots with a shot on goal each.

Goalkeep Tiffany Duncan faced seven Knight shots on goal and stopped them all for her eighth shutout of the season. She has played 1,550 plus minutes in goal and has a save percentage of 85.4% after earning 70 saves. Her goal against average is .70 in 2014. She ranks second in the latest NCAA Division III national statistics in minutes played. She also ranks 74th in goals against average with .741 and 94th in the country in save percentage with 84%. Of the 427 schools ranked in NCAA Division III statistics, UD is 63rd in goals against average .728 and 66th in shutout percentage with .5.

Siepler ranks 22nd in game winning goals with four and teammate Lynn is 62nd in game winning goals with 3.

The Spartans have qualified for the IIAC Tournament in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. UD won the IIAC Tournament in 2009 and have been in the tournament finals past two years. The Spartans are ranked #9 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America North Region Poll.
