Oct 21, 2014

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Forward Megan Siepler netted one goal and one assist in a two-win week for the Spartans as she snagged her first career Iowa Conference women’s soccer Offensive Performer of the Week honor.

Siepler delivered the game-winning goal against UW-Platteville last Tuesday off a tap-out inside the Pioneer 18-yard box. Her fourth game-winning goal of the season and third in four games gave her a school-record 13 game-winning goals in her career. She surpassed elite company in Kim Monigold and Alexandra Watkins (12 GW goals each), who rank first and fourth in career points at UD.

At Wartburg on Saturday she continued her game-winning heroics by lending a helping leg. Her assist to Kyleigh McLaughlin just three minutes into overtime gave way to victory number 13 on the season. It was UD’s third win against Wartburg in 17 total meetings.

The senior out of La Canada, Calif. has been a menace offensively as she currently ranks fourth in the IIAC in shots attempted (58) and points (21), while ranking third in goals (9). Siepler and her fellow Spartan offenders have been relentless in an attack that’s seen it outshoot opponents, 314-156, in 17 games this season.

The 2013 First Team All-Iowa Conference honoree improved her career goal count to 26, career assist count to 13, and her total points to 65. Siepler majors in Nursing, minors in Psychology, and was a 2013 Academic All-Iowa Conference award winner.

Siepler and the Spartans anxiously await senior night on October 25th against Simpson College (2-13-1, 0-4-1 IIAC) at 1:00 p.m. The Storm suffered defeat against Coe, 2-1, in their previous IIAC outing.
