Spartans Open Wrestling Season at 2014 Knox College Chuck Porter Open

2014 Knox College Porter Open 

GALESBURG, Ill. – The University of Dubuque Spartan wrestling team began the 2014-15 season by competing at the 2014 Chuck Porter Open. More than 200 wrestlers from 10 area schools competed in the event at Knox College's T. Fleming Fieldhouse. The Spartans Manuel Mendoza captured the 165 lbs. title with a 6-0 victory in the finals over #3-seed Devon Fenstermaker of Truman State. 

Joey Cisneros (125 lbs.) and Nathan Cristian (197 lbs.) both placed second at the Chuck Porter Open. Cisneros lost to #3-seed Vincent Elizarde of Loras in the finals 4-7. Cristian lost in the finals by a fall in 4:24 to Milwaukee School of Engineering's Jose Luis Hernandez. Dan Howell (285 lbs.) was the lone other place winner. Howell won the third place match by a medical forfeit. 

The Spartans open their dual meet season on Nov. 15 when they host Augustana College Vikings at 10:00 a.m. in Stoltz Sports Center.
