Men’s Basketball Cruises Past Bethany Lutheran to Keep Perfect Record Alive

Dec 9, 2014

MANKATO, Minn. – Andre Norris stole the show with 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the University of Dubuque men’s basketball team to 85-62 victory over winless Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday night.

The Spartans (8-0) were aggressive from the outset after scoring first thanks to a Gage Heffernan steal and layup. UD’s 7-0 run to start the game quickly dissipated after Bethany Lutheran (0-7) countered with an 8-point run of their own. The Spartans would take the lead for good midway through the first half after a Norris layup made it 22-20. Norris wasn't done after securing his third 20-point performance of the year and third in his last four games.

After a 39-26 halftime lead, the Spartans would outscore Bethany Lutheran by just 10 in the second despite shooting over 60% from the field. Norris (four blocks) and Co. asserted their dominance inside with 59 points in the paint compared to Bethany Lutheran’s 16 over the course of the game.

"We still have some room to grow and improve but we had a solid defensive effort tonight against the Vikings after holding them to 37% shooting," said Head Coach Robbie Sieverding.

The Ware brothers, Tyler and Lucas, had themselves a night offensively after they each shot 6 of 7 from the field for 12 points. Brandon Ferguson added 15 points and six rebounds.

"Norris scored some tough baskets for us and rebounded the ball well. Lucas and Tyler (Ware) were solid off the bench and their confidence showed. We look forward to being challenged on the road against a very good Elmhurst team this Saturday," added Coach Sieverding.

The Spartans look to go 9-0 for the second straight season against Elmhurst (6-1) on the road, Saturday, December 13 at 4:00 p.m.
