OSKALOOSA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team earned a split on Saturday against the College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.). It was a tale of two games with the Spartans losing the opening game 0-9 in five innings before rallying in the second game and capturing the victory 11-2.

Errors hampered the Spartans chances in the first game after they committed four miscues and allowing six unearned runs. UD was held to two hits, both singles by Tori Woltz and Rebecca Diffenderfer. St. Scholastica scored nine runs on nine hits and struck out eight Spartans. Amanda Williams took the loss on the mound despite eight strikouts after facing 25 batters.

Coach Wendi Wipperfurth rallied the ladies and they scored 11 runs on 10 hits in game two. Pitcher Hannah Koerperich earned the victory after throwing a complete game, facing 31 batters and collecting six strikeouts. Woltz and teammate Ainsley Billesbach both would homer for the Spartans. Three Spartans finished with doubles Kelli Gerace, Koerperich, and Diffenderfer. The trio of Billesbach, Koerperich, and Diffenderfer would all finish game two with three RBI's.

UD improved to 8-10 overall and will play Gustavus Adolphus College in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 29 beginning at noon. UD will open Iowa Conference play on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. against the Wartburg College Knights in Dubuque.
