WHITEWATER, Wis. - The University of Dubuque softball team continued their busy week of eight games in seven days and faced a top contender in #13-ranked UW-Whitewater on their home field on Thursday. UD scored first in game one, but the hosts Warhawks pecked their way back into the game winning 8-1. In the nightcap, the Spartans trailed 2-5 after the top of the sixth when Meggie Schmidt launched a two RBI homerun. The hosts would score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the victory to 9-2 in favor of UW-Whitewater.

Starting pitcher Amanda Williams took the loss in game one after throwing five innings and allowing four runs. UD garnered six hits off undefeated pitcher Waller. Schmidt led the Spartans going 2-4 at bats and scoring the Spartans lone run on a RBI ground out by Hannah Koerperich to shortstop. SPartans who collected a single in the game included: Andrea Smith, Tori Woltz, Dia Borden, and Courtney Markin. UD stranded seven runners on base in the loss.

Hannah Koerperich started game two on the mound for the Spartans and would take the loss after giving up six hits and five runs. Freshman Megan Schlueter came off the bench in relief and the Warhawks continued their offensive firepower by scoring four runs in six hits. The Spartans finished the night with eight hits, but stranded 12 runners on base. Schmidt's 2RBI homerun in the top of the sixth would be the only runs scored despite the Spartans hitting four doubles (Grunder, Kuras, Huemann, Markin).

Spartans will rest on Friday before travelling on Saturday to Cedar Rapids to face the Coe College Kohawks in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. UD returns home for Senior Day on Tuesday, April 21 when they play host to the Simpson College Storm at 3:00 p.m.
