Hero Sports Division III Hero of the Week Results
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Behind over 3300 votes, junior Emily Brinker’s career-high 41 points (17 of 28 shooting) in the University of Dubuque women basketball’s overtime defeat last week helped her beat out 11 other challengers to claim the University of Dubuque’s first Hero Sports Division III Hero of the Week Award.

Using an online voting format, Brinker trailed early, but cruised to the victory with 3,376 votes (47.7% of total votes). The Baraboo, Wis. native beat out Katie Anderson (2,867 votes for 40.1% of total) and the rest of the field for the honor. None of the remaining nine players had more than 324 votes each.

According to Hero Sports team rankings, Brinker faced the best team out of the other 10 candidates in No. 49 Loras. Brinker’s 41 points and career-high 14 rebounds, including buzzer-beater to go to overtime, outdid Anderson’s 19 points and 28 rebounds against No. 393 Hollins (Va.).

It was Brinker’s sixth 20-point game and sixth double-double, both second-best in the Iowa Conference this season.

At the end of the season, Herosports.com will hold a final vote with the weekly winners as they vie for a chance at the annual award.

Brinker and the Spartans (6-14, 1-8 Iowa Conference) head into their final five games of the conference season starting at Loras this Saturday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m.
