Four Spartans Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Blaine Snitker, Gonzalo Hernandez-Cascante, Kim Trinco, and Klaudia Basierak represented the University of Dubuque after each being named to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team for their accomplishments both on the field and off.

Snitker, a 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and senior Spartan linebacker, anchors a stellar Spartan defense that leads the Iowa Conference in scoring (16.1 ppg) and total defense (301.4 ypg) through seven Iowa Conference games. The Waukon, Iowa native missed all three non-conference games this season, but is Top-10 in the IIAC in total tackles during IIAC play. The two-time All-Academic Iowa Conference honoree earned his first career Iowa Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week award after racking up a career-high 21 tackles in win over Luther on October 3.

Snitker majors in mathematics and secondary education.

Hernandez, a Spartan forward on the University of Dubuque men's soccer team, added his CoSIDA award to his 2014 All-Academic Iowa Conference accolades. The Madrid, Spain native led the Iowa Conference on the entire season by a wide margin with 13 goals, nine assists, and 35 points. Hernandez is a three-time Iowa Conference Offensive Player of the Week and was named to the All-Iowa Conference First Team in 2014.

Trinco, a Spartan senior defender, is a two-time All-Academic Iowa Conference selection and was an integral part of the winningest class in UD history after 53 career wins. The 2015 First Team All-Iowa Conference selection started 72 of her 75 career appearances and led the Spartans to the Iowa Conference regular season and tournament title in 2014. The Schaumburg, Ill. native distributed her fourth career assist in season-opening win over Carthage on September 1.

Basierak, a senior outside hitter, adds her second CoSIDA All-District award to a growing list of career accolades. The Hainesville, Ill. native holds the UD career record in total attacks and is third in career kills among active Division III players. This season, Basierak moved into second all-time in UD history with 1838 career kills and logged a career-high 29 kills in win over Buena Vista on October 21. The first four-time All-IIAC selection in school history, Basierak led the Spartans to their fifth-straight Iowa Conference tournament appearance and their best record since 2007.
