BOX SCORE
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Senior Katie Lynn broke open a defensive struggle with her sixth goal of the season in the 81st minute and assisted on Kyleigh McLaughlin's goal in the 87th as the No. 24 University of Dubuque women's soccer team defeated Dominican University (Ill.), 2-0, on Wednesday night.

Despite leading the shot count, 15-10, the Spartans (6-1-1) had all they could handle from a stout Dominican defense throughout the night. UD had its share of chances, especially late in the second, as McLaughlin and senior Lisa Rosas both saw their shots graze past the left posts midway through the final half.

McLaughlin, in her second game back from injury, capitalized late and scored her second goal in as many games off a touch pass from Lynn at the top of the 18-yard box. Her insurance goal came minutes after Lynn finally broke through at the 81-minute mark thanks to a shallow cross from the right side from Alora Esparza to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Lynn finished with a game-high seven shots, four of them on goal while goalkeeper Paige Dykstra anchored the Spartans fourth shutout of the year with four saves.

The Spartans improved to 5-0 all-time vs. Dominican, winning all five by the combined score of 9-1.

UD opens up Iowa Conference play this Saturday, September 26 at home against Wartburg at 2:00 p.m.
