DUBUQUE, Iowa - Senior Katie Lynn notched her eighth goal of the year in the 53rd minute to give the University of Dubuque women's soccer team the victory over North Central (Ill.), 1-0, on Wednesday night.

The Spartans (9-2-1, 1-1 Iowa Conference) had their chances throughout after outshooting the Cardinals, 18-6, on the game. After a first half that hovered around 50/50 possession, the Spartans came out firing in the second and outshot North Central, 10-3. Lynn took off on a solo breakaway up the middle and converted in a one-on-one battle with the goalie through the right side in the 53rd. Six of Lynn's eight goals on the year have been game-winners as she extends her school record to 15 career game-winning goals.

Leading the team with eight goals on the year, Lynn sits second in the Iowa Conference behind the leader scorer who's tallied 12 goals.

North Central (6-5, 1-0 CCIW) missed taking the early lead in the first after a free kick from 25 yards out clipped the crossbar and bounced harmlessly out of bounds. A close instance occurred in the second after Lynn's goal when a Cardinal corner kick bounced around the box, but was kicked out to preserve the lead.

Lynn and Kyleigh McLaughlin recorded a team-high five shots each as McLaughlin put three of hers on goal. Senior defender Kim Trinco, who had attempted three shots on the season, saw both of her attempts land on goal.

Defensively, UD goalkeeper Paige Dykstra improved to 6-2 after stopping a pair of close calls with two clutch saves.

UD improved to 6-0-1 all-time against North Central and have outscored them 11-3 in their seven meetings.

The Spartans get back to their rugged IIAC slate as they host Central College this Saturday, October 10 at 4:30 p.m. to kick off a men's and women's doubleheader.
