PELLA, Iowa - Sophomore Alec Bass placed 36th with a time of 26:39 to lead the Spartans to a 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Division III Central Regional meet hosted by Central College on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans accumulated 570 points on the rolling Central course as St. Olaf (62 points) and Loras (127) clinched a national berth after placing first and second, respectively, in a field of 29 teams. The region's top two teams and top seven individuals not on qualifying teams automatically qualify for the National meet held at Winneconne, Wis. next Saturday, November 21. Sixteen at-large team bids will be determined after all results are in.

Bass clocked his fourth sub-27 minute time of the season and made a 52-second improvement on his 27:31 at the Spartans season opening Central College Invitational on September 5. The 2015 All-IIAC finisher was followed by Payton Nevills (126th, 28:33), senior Jordan Murray (130th, 28:37), sophomore Jack Lindsay (134th, 28:42), junior Jonathan Berland (144th, 29:11), freshman Riley Holst (154th, 29:25), and freshman Hunter Reifschneider (169th, 30:16).

The Spartan men will be back in action as most transition to indoor track and field starting on December 5 at home in Spartan-Duhawk duel.
