DUBUQUE, Iowa - Guard Dillon Gretzky scored 19 points and led four Simpson players in double figures as the Storm defeated the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), 78-72, in the Jon Davison Classic.
The Storm (7-4) held the lead for the entire second half and survived a scare midway through the second half when the Scarlet Hawks (2-11) cut the Simpson lead to one. IIT got as close as 74-70 with 34 seconds remaining, but four straight free throw makes, including two by Gretzky, allowed Simpson to seal the deal.
Simpson reserve Sam Amsbaugh tallied 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting and was named to the All-Classic team after scoring a career-high 24 points in Simpson's opening defeat to Mt. Mercy.
Despite the loss, the Scarlet Hawks' Sam Rarick led a red hot offense that shot 51.7% on the game and 58.1% in the first half. The junior racked up a tournament-high 29 points and 11 rebounds on 13 of 17 shooting and was also named to the All-Classic team.

Dubuque, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans finished the 2015 Jon Davison Classic with a perfect 2-0 record after rallying from a 34-35 deficit at halftime to win 85-72 over Mount Mercy University.
The Spartans won the game in the second half by sinking 19-23 free throw attempts 82.6%. Both squads scored inside and rebounding edge was in favor of the Spartans by a narrow 43-42. Andre Norris finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead all scorers. Kain Arthofer added 17 points, Jake Weber had 16 points and 12 rebounds, Jacob Mohlis 11 points, and Deonte Newsome 10 points.
The Spartans improved to 7-4 overall and will host the Wartburg College Knights on Wednesday, January 6 at 8:00 p.m. to open the Iowa Conference season at home in Stoltz Sports Center on Jon Davison Court.
