Rivalry Week Against Loras Heats Up Amidst Conclusion of IIAC Seasons

Oct 26, 2015

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Five University of Dubuque athletic teams including football, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, and cross country square off at home against their intra-city rival Loras throughout this week as both schools position themselves for Iowa Conference titles and playoff seedings.

Women's Soccer
When: Tuesday, October 27 at 5:00 p.m. (Oyen Field)
Both teams have clinched Iowa Conference Tournament berths with UD (2-3-1 IIAC) as the No. 6 seed and Loras (3-2-1 IIAC) as the No. 5 seed. Whoever wins has a shot at the No. 3 seed and a chance to host the first round of the IIAC tournament this Saturday.

Men's Soccer
When: Tuesday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. (Oyen Field)
The Spartans aim to beat Loras for the first time in school history and a chance at a share of their first regular season Iowa Conference title since 2010. Loras (6-0 IIAC) is currently the No. 1 seed while the Spartans (4-1-1 IIAC) hold the No. 2 seed. A Spartan win and they host an IIAC semifinal win next Wednesday, November 4 at home and a loss could drop them to the No. 3 seed where they would host the IIAC First Round this Saturday.

Volleyball
When: Wednesday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. (Stoltz Sports Center)
UD (3-3 IIAC) sits as the No. 6 seed while Loras (4-2 IIAC) holds the No. 3 seed in a crowded field. A Spartan win would break a two-game skid against the Duhawks and the possibility of hosting a first round IIAC match.

Cross Country
When: Saturday, October 31 at 11:00 a.m. (Dubuque Soccer Complex)
The Iowa Conference Championships take place at a familiar venue as both UD men and women attempt to improve upon their fifth-place performances a year ago. The men tallied their best finish since 1983 while the women crossed the line for their best IIAC placing in school history. Both will try to catch host Loras, who has slipped by both Spartan squads in earlier meets this fall.

Football
When: Saturday, October 31 at 1:00 p.m. (Chalmers Field)
The Spartans (4-0 IIAC) hold a one game lead over the rest of the conference as they attempt to beat Loras (3-1 IIAC) in the Key City Clash for the fifth straight time. UD's other four wins have come by a combined score of 176-23. A UD win would keep them on top and a loss would drop them into a tie with Loras and possibly Wartburg.

This is make or break week for many of these teams as the fall season nears its conclusion. Make sure to stop out in support of the Blue and White throughout this week and Go Spartans!
