Spartans Rally to Victory over Rams

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team dug deep on Thursday night and rallied back from an 0-2 start to sweep the final three sets and the match against the Cornell College Rams 3-2.
UD fell behind after losing the first set 20-25, the host Rams captured the second set 25-17 and the Spartans found their mojo and averaged over 11 kills a set en route to a sweep of the final three sets 25-20, 26-24, 15-10. Klaudia Baseriak led both teams with a game high 15 kills. Karrah Davis added 11 kills and a team high 15 digs and five service aces. UD ended the night with 49 kills after finishing with 169 attacks. Alyssa Cose had 32 of the team's 47 set assists. Defensively the Spartans fought off the Ram attacks and grabbed 76 defensive digs led by a quartet of Spartans: Davis (15), Kristin Wright (14), Johnna Steggall (11), and Marina Treto (10). Anna Runge attacked the net for three solo blocks and four block assists.
UD improved to 3-4 overall and will play in the 2015 UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic on Friday, Sept. 11 with matches against St. Norbert at 4:00 p.m. and Marantha Baptist College at 8:00 p.m.
