CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Sophomore Kiersten Wenthold led the Spartans for the first time in her career with a 25th place showing as UD finished 8th at the Mount Mercy Gallop.

The Spartans raced without their top runner from 2014, junior Fabiola Ortiz, and tallied 191 points to place eighth out of nine teams. Cornell took home the team title with 27 points while Mount Mercy finished second with 36 points.

Wenthold posted a time of 16:47 at the newly minted 4k course at Seminole Valley Park. Following close behind Wenthold was first-year Abby Ray (31st, 17:05), sophomore Kayla Kinateder (35th, 17:22), transfer sophomore Jackii Roeder (49th, 18:09), and sophomore Kristin Mackenburg (51st, 18:19) as they rounded out the top 5 for the women.

"We tried to work on aspects of pack running tonight and I thought we did a decent job of working together and running a good hard last mile of the shorter race," said Head Coach Geoff Gundlach.

The Spartans will have a quick turnaround as they race an official 6k course when they travel to the Dutch Invite/Pre-Regional meet hosted by Central College this Saturday, September 5.
