BOX SCORE
CHICAGO, Ill. – Midfielder Kelly Wetherald scored a hat trick and set UD's single-season scoring record and the University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team snapped a two-game skid with their school record 10th victory in win over the Illinois Institute of Technology, 10-7, on Monday night.

In their final non-conference game of the season, two school records were set as UD remained undefeated against the Scarlet Hawks (10-4) en route to their first season of double-digit wins.

Wetherald’s three goals set the single-season goals record of 49 to surpass teammate and fellow senior Bridget Schirmers 2014 mark.

Tjaarda filled up the box score after scoring three goals, adding two assists, picking up six ground balls, winning eight draw controls, and causing three turnovers. Schirmers added one goal and three assists while junior Robyn Wittkopf notched two goals and one assist.

UD (10-4) sprinted out to a 3-0 lead with goals by three different players and never trailed in the win. The Spartans added back-to-back goals on Wittkopf’s final goal of the game and Tjaarda’s third at the 6:26 mark of the second half to effectively seal the deal with a 10-5 lead.

The Scarlet Hawks converted four of nine free position shots on the night as both teams tied with 21 total shot attempts. UD goalkeeper Kaley Weir tallied eight saves and held the Scarlet Hawks to under 10 goals for the third straight meeting between the two. The Spartans have outscored IIT, 50-14, and improved to 3-0 in the series.

The Spartans continue with the second of their three-game road trip when they face Carthage this Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.
