Women's Tennis Not Enough for St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team fell to St. Ambrose, 7-2, despite two wins from Arantxa Martinez and her playing partner Marissa Joers on Tuesday afternoon.

Martinez improved to 8-1 in No. 1 singles after defeating Griffin Rasche, 6-3, 6-4, and teamed up with Joers to emerge victorious in No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Freshman Megan Ranney put up a valiant effort in her No. 3 singles bout, but fell to Sarah Wurster, 4-6, 6-1, 5-10.

"We played well, we are cutting the mistakes short but we are still climbing the hump," said Graduate Assistant Dishon Deering.

The Spartans have two remaining matches left until the Iowa Conference Individual Tournament against Buena Vista University on September 30 at 10:00 a.m. and versus Augustana College on October 6 at 3:30 p.m.
