Wrestling Fall Short in Back-and-Forth Battle with #14 Coe

Jeremy Melendez captured the major decision on Thursday night in the 141 lbs. weight class over Coe's Levi Azinger by a 11-3 margin.
DUBUQUE, Iowa - After four lead changes and five wins, the University of Dubuque wrestling team fell to No. 14 Coe, 22-16, in a hotly contested bout on Thursday night.
With the Spartans (13-10, 3-4 Iowa Conference) trailing, 16-10, 184 lbs. Jonathan Denikas came up with a big win thanks to an overtime victory by decision, 6-4, to pull the Spartans within 16-13. Coe (12-5, 5-2 Iowa Conference) won the decisive 197 lbs. match over UD's Cosmo Halwix by fall 5:51 to clinch the win.
At 133 lbs., UD's Stephen Rosenburg won by decision, 6-5, for his team-leading 26th victory of the season.
It was the final regular season match for the Spartans as they head to postseason play with the NCAA Central Regional (hosted by Loras) at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque on Saturday, February 27 at 9:00 a.m.
