BOX SCORE vs. Central

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team was looking to continue their recent conference win streak, but the visiting Central College Dutch fought off the Spartans challenges in a 85-78 road victory for Central.

Central led the game for 36:48 and would lead by as much as 15 points. The Spartans would cut the Dutch lead to a basket or two throughout the night, but Central rallied to maintain the lead in the Iowa Conference tilt. Both teams needed a win to stay within the top-half of the conference standings as the league regular season winds down.

The Dutch held a slim margin in rebounding 42-39, but would get 32 points from their bench when their starters found themselves in foul trouble. The Spartans were led by duo Jamaree Atwater and T.J. Lake who both led all scorers with 24 points each. Marcus McDaniel added 10 points and UD would finish with just four points from their bench in the loss.

Central scored in the paint and would shoot over 52% in the second half. UD made 25-65 attempts from the field (38.5%).

The Spartans (12-9 overall, 4-8 in IIAC) travel across the state to face the Buena Vista Beavers (16-6 overall, 9-4 in IIAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 7 in Storm Lake. UD continues travel on Feb. 10 when they play at Coe (9-13 overall, 5-8 in IIAC) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
