Men's Lacrosse Falls on Road in Defensive Battle

ANGOLA, Ind. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought loss on the road at Trine University on Saturday afternoon, falling 6-4 to the Thunder.

Terrance Green won the opening faceoff for the Spartans and on UD's first possesion of the game Tanner Weis found the back of the net off of a pass from Michael Julius to give UD an early 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later Trine responded with two goals of their own in an 11 second span to put Trine up 2-1. After nine minutes of scoreless action after the three quick goals, UD got back on the board when Ethan Senesac delivered a man down goal for the Spartans. With time winding down in the first quarter, UD forced a turnover and raced the length of the field and Davis Berhns scored with just three seconds left in the frame. 

Just like the first quarter, there was another early goal to start a quarter, this time it was Trine opening up the second period with a goal to make it a 3-3 game. From that point on, the defense's hunkered down and the score remained 3-3 at halftime. Trine scored the first two goals of the third quarter to jump ahead 5-3 before Davis Behrns recorded his second goal of the game with 8:53 remaining in the fourth to trim the deficit to 5-4. The Spartans had several chances to tie it up but could not convert and Trine would add one more goal late to seal the game.

After allowing 66 shots and 27 goals on Tuesday night, the Spartan defense bounced back on Saturday afternoon limiting Trine to just 21 shots. The Spartans outshot the Thunder 23-21. Another area of improvement from Tuesday came at the faceoff cirlce. UD lost 28 of 38 faceoffs on Tuesday but won 10 of 12 against the Thunder.

Kyle Mullis had a strong game in the net for UD despite the loss, recording eight saves on 14 shots.  

The Spartans return home on Wednesday when they host Monmouth College at 7:30 p.m. at Oyen Field.
