Women's Lacrosse Win Home Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's lacrosse jumped out to an early lead on Wednesday night and held off a charging Clarke University Pride by a 16-12 margin.

The Spartans jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in their home opener before the Pride rallied back to score two goals. UD led at halftime 10-5. Clarke would out score the host Spartans in the second half 7-6. 

The duo of Breann Tjaarda and Claire Carlson would combine for 14 goals (seven each) as teammate Kori King added two goals, one in each half. Goalkeeper Kaley Weir earned the win after collecting 16 saves. The Pride held a slight edge in ground balls 29-24 and in turnovers caused 16-7. Clarje finished the night with 41 shots and UD ended the night with 26 shots.

The Spartans (2-2 overall) travel north to face Northwestern-St. Paul on Saturday, March 24 at 3:00 p.m. and will play the Wartburg College Knights on March 28 at 4:00 p.m.
