UD's Crowder Named to D3football.com Team of the Week!

Oct 2, 2018

MINNEAPOLIS, MInn. - The University of Dubuque's Marshon Crowder (LB, 6-1, 200 lbs., So., Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead High School) was named to week #5 D3football.com Team of the Week for his efforts in the Spartans 49-42 win over the Loras College Duhawks in the 2018 Key City Clash.

Crowder seemed to be in everywhere and in the right spot on Saturday. He collected an interception in Loras's first drive of the afternoon and returned it 15 yards. The Spartans would convert that turnover into seven points just seven plays and 2:33 later on a Sean Duffy pass complete to Karletty Faamatuainu for a 23 yards touchdown. He would finish with six solo and two assisted tackles along with two pass break-ups. The play of the game would happen in the final seconds.

Loras with the ball on UD's 35 yardline and a 1st and 10, would have the ball knocked loose by Blaze Barista and Crowder picked up the ball at the 50 and returned it to the Loras goal line for a 50 yard fumble recovery which end up being the winning score with just :29 seconds left on the clock.

This is the eighth consecutive victory for the Spartans in the Key City Clash over the Duhawks.

In the spirit of sportsmanship and mutual respect, and in a desire to give back to our local community and what it means to be faith-based institutions the The University of Dubuque and Loras College contribute a portion of the gate receipts from the Key City Clash annual event to a non-profit organization. Organizations who have received donations from the game are: United Way (2008), Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Eastern Iowa (2009), the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dubuque (2010), Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque Flood Relief (2011), Riverview Center (2012), Opening Doors Maria House-Teresa Shelter (2013), the Gabriel Project (2014), and the Dubuque Dream Center (2015), the Gabriel Project (2016), and the Red Cross Hurricane Relief (2017).

Since Dubuque played a key role in the early development of the state, Dubuque is often referred as "The Key City". The winner of the Key City Clash will proudly display the traveling trophy for the following year at their school. One side of the key is painted blue and white to represent the University of Dubuque while the other is painted in purple and gold for Loras College. The winner of the annual game gains possession of the "Key to the City". The wooden key presented to the winner each year is six feet in length.
