Wrestling Finish 9th at Cornell's Cliff Keen Mike Duroe Open

MOUNT VERENON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque wrestling team placed ninth out of 18 teams at the 2019 Cornell College Cliff Keen Mike Duroe Open on Saturday with 58.5 points.
Zarik Anderson (165 lbs.) wrestled his way into the quarterfinals before losing to Cornell's Ben Hewson by a fall in 2:37. Anderson would wrestle his way back to a third place finish for the Spartans after capturing a win over PJ Laadd of Lakeland 6-2 and won a hard fought 6-5 victory over Travis Deegan of Concordia Moorhead.
Ethan Cain (197 lbs.) would start the day with back-to-back falls (UW-La Crosse's Lawrence Thomas in 3:48) and Bryce Kallenbach (Concoirdia Moorhead in 1:45) before losing in sudden victory 2-4 to Iowa State Wrestling Club's Costas Hatzipavilde. Cain would wrestlback and win by fall over Buena Vista's Don Phillips in 1:37, and won a 3-2 decision over Cornell's Kendale McCoy and placed sixth.
Robert Melise (285 lbs.) would start like Cain and grab two falls to open the day. He beat Guy Snow (Coe in 3:23) and would get the second fall in 1:33 over Spencer Cox (Luther College). He lost to Trevor Piggott (Olivet College) in a second tie break 6-8. Melise wrestle backed and captured a fall over Luther's Cox once again this time in 1:42 and he captured a decision 2-1 over Dominick Wilson by a 2-1 margin. Melise would finish sixth.
